Dr. Christian Wacker

sports museologist – sports historian – sports archaeologist

Dr. Christian Wacker is an archaeologist and sports historian who received his Ph.D. for The Ancient Gymnasium in Olympia, at Würzburg University in Germany (1996). His main field of research is ancient sports history, but also 19th century and Olympic sports history. He has organized around 30 sports exhibitions internationally during the last 10 years.
He worked as an archaeologist at the excavation of ancient Olympia, Greece in the 90ies. Subsequently, he joined a scientific publishing house and led the editorial office. He also worked for several years as Head of Content in a museum exhibition company specializing in technology and digital applications.
From 2005 to 2008, he directed the German Sports and Olympia Museum in Cologne and was the Director of the Qatar Olympic & Sports Museum in Doha, Qatar from 2008 to 2014. In 2014 he took over the responsibility for building a Museum Academy at the University in Freiburg, Germany. He had been teaching at universities in Germany and Brazil as well as at the International Olympic Academy in Greece and has published 15 books and circa 60 papers about sports history and archaeology. He is a member of various sports academic associations and the co-founder of the German Society for the History of Sports Science. Since 2012 he is vice-president of the International Society for the History of Sports.

Klaus Fink

Klaus Fink started to collect stamps at the age of 10 in 1960. This lead to a specialization in Olympic Philately in the 80ies with a specific field of interest in the torch relay after his first visit to the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Since 1988 and with the one exception, Sotchi in 2014, he has watched the lighting of all the Olympic Flames including the Youth Olympic Games.
He accompanies the Olympic Flame from its source in ancient Olympia, following the torch relay through Greece and often to the opening ceremony at its destination in the relevant organizing country.
His main task is the philatelic documentation of the torch relays and Olympic Games for collectors and museums. Furthermore, he is a specialist for Greek editions concerning the Olympic games.

Ingrid O’Neil was born and raised in Stuttgart and studied in Heidelberg, Vienna, Paris and Tübingen (showing an early nomadic tendency). She graduated in Tübingen in History as well as in German and Romanic literature.
In the 70ies she immigrated to the US with her husband and child. Her professional career started in an auction house for coins in Michigan and since 1986 she is an independent trader for medals of the renaissance period. From 1990 she has also organized auctions for Olympic Memorabilia: she organized the very first auction during the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Other Olympic auctions followed in Lausanne (at the IOC), Rio de Janeiro, Seoul, Colorado Springs, Salt Lake City and others. In March 2015 she celebrated her 75th Olympic auction.

Since the Winter Games in 1994 in Lillehammer/Norway I have visited all the Olympic Games. By monitoring locally, reading, researching and collecting I was able to gain an overview and to form a judgment on different aspects of the event specifically on design matters. Since the early 90’ies I have been collecting Olympic documents and memorabilia. After all these years, my collection has reached a size of 20’000 objects and still keeps on growing. My reason for collecting Olympic documents and memorabilia is to have the basic sources to hand and not to depend on external sources.
